Carey was 5'10 inches tall at the time she was a leading model. Her popularity among American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was high. Her father was the world-renowned geologist, who was awarded the title of Scientist of the Year from the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Her father was a geologist and traveled across the globe as part of his career. When she finished her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she started to do modeling as a side. This caught the eye of an agent at Ford Model Agency New York. She lived in France briefly, in Paris and Bordeaux. After that, she came back in New York for her college studies and to further develop her career as a model. While modeling, she also went to New York University full-time to obtain a degree in literature. As she studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for acting grew. Her acting debut was a role with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Paradise. She enjoys rock climbing, skiing, and windsurfing.
